Yes usually at night (trying to sneak back out of a port, or something like that).
As always, stealth and surprise are important, but if I can't get those, sometimes running away from them(they are directly behind) and trying a stern tube shot at their bow has worked, but NEVER guaranteed.

Again as many say: Taking on a DD is a last-resort option.

This particular DD was just blind, stupid luck. I was set to shoot at the liner, stuck up the scope, and there was DD. Used another torp still at default (5') and got him. I hadn't even thought of going for any of the 4 DD's.
