Yeah, what is it with modern trains and rigid seats? The old Mark One stock in the UK had some lovely springy, really comfortable seats, and yet the more recent stuff has quite rigid and firm seats, not uncomfortable but nowhere near as comfortable as the old stock.
Of course, the downside to that comfort is that the stuff folds up like wet paper in a crash:
