Heard on the TV news Gene Wilder became a recluse in his final few years. The reason? He didn't want the possibility of children seeing him in his deteriorating condition because he didn't want them to lose the smiles they had when they watched Willy Wonka...

Gene Wilder originally wanted to be a serious dramatic actor and got into comedy inadvertently. He invested his comedy roles with a humanity and pathos only seen in the work of some one like a Chaplin and his humanness is what set him apart from so many other actors in comedy...

The one film not mentioned very often, but I feel is one of his best, is Start The Revolution Without Me, a send up of Dumas novels and the French Revolution. He played a dual role as twins and was absolutely hilarious. If you ever get the chance to see it, it is well worth the go...

Thanks, Gene Wilder, for being a great actor and a great human being...
