I used to draw Type VIIs in my notebooks in high school. To me the Type VII has such a beautiful silouette.

I'm with you on the diesel/electric vs nuclear thing. I never had any interest in nuclear subs.

Patrol ranges, length of time on station--those sorts of things fascinate me. I'm always intrigued by accounts of Drumbeat--the idea of a submarine traveling all the way across the Atlantic, and then that image of the skipper peering through his periscope at some fully-lit American seaside town...
