One reason I stopped listening to critics is the reason you mentioned. I like to put forward the issue that pushed me over the edge.
On rotten tomatoes the critics gave
Boondock saints a 20% and the viewers 91%. Personally I love that movie. It's simple without being dumb (I'm looking at you Michael Bay) and then you read the critics [use posh voice with cognac in hand) ''what garbage, just a sorry parody of Tarantino movies'' Yeah sure, it's like a Tarantino movie WITHOUT the endless dialogues

And that makes it better.
Second reason is that today there's an epidemic where it's cool to bash on things that are popular.
