If you face off against a destroyer directly coming at you, you fire off a torpedo with a magnetic fuse set for just below the enemy's hull. It blows up and the enemy ship becomes a huge rampaging ball of fire- NOTE- MOMENTUM FOLKS!!!
You should definitely haul ass away from him as he will continue towards you and will ram you (based upon personal experience
)
This is only applicable for the 'down the throat shots' where you and he are facing with very little deflection either left or right.
