The whole Sky Slide matter is a big news item here in Los Angeles. What is odd is the building, itself, has been considered by the local authorities as a prime terrorism target, although why no one seems to be able to pin down, other than some officials trying to make out the building has some of the same cachet and importance of the destroyed NY Twin Towers (it doesn't, really). Due to the supposed threat, the building, and any access to the upper reaches of the tower, have been off-limits to the general public. Tourists often have gone onto the building seeking to go to the top to see the view, but are turned away by building security; and security is very tight, at a level exceeding some of the most high profile government building in the area. A company I once worked for had a parent holding company whose offices were in that building and, even long before 9/11, if you didn't have business in there, and the proper clearances, it was a very definite "no-go". So far I haven't found any reports as to the reason for the sudden turn about regarding public access...
