.
Thank you all, for your kind reception! Also, the information dump was a nice pleasure. I appreciate that.

I'll take your advice and at least go for the UBM download. It dawned on me last night that I don't have the registration number for my original 2008 SH4 Install Disk, and considering a few reports of some problems with getting the game to run properly on machines with a post-XP OS (installed from the original disc), I'm also considering simply downloading the Gold Edition, which will take care of everything in one fell swoop. (I assume). It'll cost $10 more than I may need to pay, but the piece of mind might be worth it.

Anyway, A little about me (since I haven't put any info in my profile yet)...
- Recently Retired Air Force. During my career I used to live in the hills overlooking Pearl Harbor for about 5 years, during which time I spent a lot of time in the halls of US Pacific Command (getting chided by the Navy guys for being Air Force).
- Was also stationed at Guam
- Am slightly ADD, so I have many hobbies. This means I can't be sure how long my interest in WWII sub gaming will be active with me before I get bored and move to another one of my hobbies. The good thing is, when that happens, I'll be back! (I rotate from hobby to hobby, to eventually come back to each one).
- My "core" hobby is board games... "hobby board games", that is. (Am not talking about Monopoly, etc).
- I'm very active on Board Game Geek. My username is bgm1961 (same as here).
- So it's fitting that my current WWII submarine kick is due to the solitaire board game, "Silent Victory: U.S. Submarines in the Pacific 1941-45". Go here for more info if interested: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardg...acific-1941-45
- With 'Silent Victory' lighting the fire, I decided to pull out my SH4 disc and get back into SH4 also. My PC gaming days go back to the 80's where I played TONS of Micropose's Silent Service!
- The problem was, I played too many PC games (er, too many hours) back in the day and it took control of my life. So I stopped and really haven't been active in PC gaming for the past 15-20 years! (With SH4 being the sole exception back in 2008).
- So, getting back into SH4 now is my first step getting back into PC simming. Hopefully I'm wiser and more disciplined now, so that I can turn the machine off before 3 AM!
