Asperger's was once classified as a mental illness here in the US; it has only fairly recently been reclassified as a part of the autism spectrum and is now being treated as such. A great many of the notable people of science and other disciplines are believed to have been affected by Asperger's including Einstein, Alan Turing, Tesla, pianist Glenn Gould, Isaac Asimov, and actor/comedian Robin Williams. High capabilities in one or more fields is a hallmark of the syndrome and, once persons with Asperger's are diagnosed, a fully functional and achieving life is very possible...

It is good to hear her teachers are supportive of her and her abilities. So often children who may not be "of the norm" are marginalized and made to feel unnecessarily "different". I hope she will continue to have their support...
