Israel reverse engineered a small fleet of Mirage series 5
fighter jets after the French Embargo in the 70's. They were fitted with the J79 General Electric engine from the F-4 Phantom necessitating a dorsal scoop for air cooling and they called them the Kfir ( Lion Cub )
Newer Kfirs also featured foreplane canards and strakes, some of which were moveable to facilitate shorter takeoff runs.
