It's not as bad as when I first played SH3 without reading the instruction manual or tutorials and ended up in the middle of a task force surfaced with my periscope up and going in circles because I couldn't figure out which button made me go straight. The destroyers must have been confused because I didn't die right away.
As for SH4 my biggest screw up was when I plotted my course and didn't see the little teeny tiny itty bitty island about the size of the one from Spongebob was in my way in the middle of the ocean. So long story short I crashed into it going flank speed and drove the boat right up onto it which promptly rolled onto its side and caught fire.
