That's not entirely true. They were Avia 199. The Avia 199 had a Junkers Jumo 211 engine which was designed for bombers (the only aviation engine available in Czechoslovaki) while the real Me 109 had Daimler Benz engines. The Jumo 211 was actually too big and heavy for the 109 fuselage and made the Avia pretty unpleasant to fly.
