To be fair, the actual history of the formation of Israel goes back a bit further than post-WWII, migration of Jews to Israel had been taking place since the late 1800s. In a way, oddly enough, one could make comparisons with the current mass migration in Europe, especially with the rise of Nazi Germany, leading thousands of Jews to flee Germany and disperse throughout Europe and also to Israel.
The whole post-war events leading up to the Arab-Israeli war were...messy to say the least, both sides shed their fair share of blood, and we found ourselves in the middle trying to work it out but in the end failing miserably.
My Grandfather found himself there, I have no idea what he did as a part of 45 Commando, but I have a couple of photos that he took whilst there.
