For
Magnetic trigger, you should set the depth of your torpedoes so that they pass 1-3 m below the keel of the target ship.
For
Impact trigger, the torpedoes should be aimed so that they strike the side of the target ships' hull...and at an approximately 90° angle to the hull.
For the magnetic trigger, the angle doesn't matter, though firing from the side of the target ship still allows more room for error.
