I personally would have used flamethrowers and a full on scorched earth policy if I was in charge of killing those little blue turds. You gotta go Genghis Khan on those bastards, they are resilient.
I would use drones to identify the top targets, Papa smurf would have a hellfire up his crack so fast, that it would shatter the resistance. Burn a few town, put the men to the sword and enslave the women and children, they will learn. If not, much fun and plunder to be had teaching them.
