I'm just the opposite. For every bad thing someone else can say about my country, I can think of five more. Everybody has problems, and nobody's perfect. It's fine if you want to blame somebody else; almost everybody does. The bigger you are, and the more influence you have, the more some people are going to hate you. There are countries that are doing better in some areas. Good. It's also true that we all have something to learn.

America's pride really comes from the fact that we started this whole "No kings or queens, we can govern ourselves" thing. That said, we got the idea from others (Ancient Greeks, Enlightenment English and French, and more). We did turn it around and put those ideas into action, but not always in the best way. Who does?

Part of the problem I see is worrying too much about what other people think. There are people who like you and people who don't. Somebody puts down me, or my friends, or my country, that's their problem, not mine. Another thing to consider is whether an angry reaction is really because we secretly think they might be right. Still not worth it. Unless they actually endanger any of the above it's not worth the time to even think about it, let alone get angry.
