In the fire service, we call it job security. I've seen so much stupid people, that nothing stupid really surprises me.
This also reminds me of when I was doing some hurricane relief in Louisiana. The cafeteria tent had a sign that said, "The closer you are to an alligator's jaws, the lower you are on the food chain."
