Tried your medals mod once, crashed the game since I still have 1.4 - one of these days I will get around to buying 1.5 (or the gold disk).

Personally I use my own mods, with "bang for your buck";

Using the 125x125 I do more damage per fish, and with "Gone Asiatic";

I can have a lot of torpedoes.

Consequently I get the "Victory Cross" on every patrol, although the medals for the crew seem to vary all over creation. I also found that renown points are deducted according to how badly damaged the sub is when I end the patrol, if it's really bad they'll even insist on scrapping the sub and sometimes ending your career.
