Ya, trying to get TDW patcher (there are two methods in that thread) for my steam version was for me just a waste of time.
However, the modsoup I posted with JSGME, indeed

for my steam version, is already a massive improvement to the stock version, w/r to gameplay, graphics, historical depth, etc.
Do as you wish, but as I said, I spent a lot of time and even had a list with over 70 nice mods (!) but conflicts led to relentless crashes...
Ok, several bugs cannot be corrected, no deck awash, no real navigation, etc., but the experience is good enough.
