I'm running a 2011 version and it does not have this option. Maybe a later version supports indefinite suspension.

I googled this and several other people had reported this same problem on the AVG forums. AVG support said, "send us your log file and a screen shot" so there was no solution given. The quarantining of the file was listed in the log, but when you opened the virus vault it was not there.
Anyway I did a complete re-install and I discovered how to white-list files in AVG under the advanced settings you can specify files to ignore. So I ignored the patched sh3.exe in all the places where it occurs and everything is fine now.
