That's just what I was thinking.
Never heard of Avast, but if SSI01 would have popped back in, I would have suggested he check his anti virus vault (if Avast has one) to see what it's preventing from running. The "Sound.act" file is an un moddable file that makes up the basic Silent Hunter game. There's no reason to lose the file on installation except for some external process doing it.
You two guys should buy a lottery ticket together.......the odds of you both having the same problem, at the same time, is amazing!

The "Eye Patch for 1.5" mod is
suspect too. If SSI01 is only running a 1.4 version of the game, this mod probably won't work either.
He's got a lot going on with his game installation. I hope he returns to at least get the base game sorted out.
