My tactic as of late is to line up a good 90 degree shot from 300 meters out. I always use manual targeting. Set the torpedoe at 4 or 5 meter depth, Medium speed, magnetic fuse. Works all the time.
I'll put one torpedoe in my target then surface and finish it off with the deck gun.
