I'd think that would waste too much time. Always switching out, plus the extra fuel for getting her rolling again. 8 on 8 off worked well for us. We put miles behind us and most always got eight hours of sleep in a stretch. Usually seven for me and an hour left over for reading and eating. We agreed on at least one hot meal a day which we tried to couple with a fuel stop. Or a short overnight in Reno or Vegas prior to heading into LA or an overnight at a nice truck stop/ restaurant in the mountains east of Seattle.
Going into a big city during rush hour is never a good idea.
