I don't know if this will help much, but for me, I've noticed that in the stock game, the external camera goes out to about 20Km. If you try to take the exterior view farther than that, it causes weird visual artifacts, usually corrected by saving, quitting, and reloading.
I appreciate all the work modders have made to improve the game, but for me, it is just a game (so I have to keep reminding myself) and I can work around the errors in the stock version.
