First patrol in 1941. Sub is a S-18 class. Have taken no damage whatsoever. Haven't sailed a S-18 since circa 2007. Please someone tell me this sub's hydrophone is worthless by design or else I'll fear it's a bug.

My impression is that the S-boats' hydrophone doesn't work on the surface
