Some years ago (thankfully) my wife's friend told her during a phone conversation how she was preparing to return to an abusive partner. I pronounced loudly upon her, saying that she was "odd" (among other things). My wife was telling me not to be so harsh when she discovered that the line to her friend's phone was still live: she'd heard every word. "I'm glad someone's still on my side", the girl said before hanging up.
