It's an old 1:87 (HO) Tyco die-cast 'General', this is a kit version which came in pieces and without paint. Motor is in the tender, and there is a worm drive that drives the locomotive's big wheels.
(My other old favourite is a Rivarossi 'Genoa', but it is a rather late, post civil-war 4-4-0. And yes i am a big fan of Buster Keaton's film "The General"

I like the ballasting of the rails on your layout very much, those rails look astonishingly real

I was looking for 'flatter' rails, as the pre 1868 ones were not as thick and study as later. In those times it also was wide-track of course, but i will not change
that..
