The light from the stars gets washed out by the light from our star in every picture taken in space. The Apollo 11 astronauts found out what the sun can do to a camera when it's not protected by an atmosphere when they turned their TV camera toward the sun and immediately burned out the lens circuitry.

The Earth and the moon only show up in this picture because of the extremely bright light from the solar mass reflecting off of them.
