gouldjg,
What happens is when using fuel or ammo as cargo the explosion value is modified by the [Global Params] values associated with these items.

In the case of
Fuel = FuelForceMultiplyer=0.5 - The fuel's 0.5 is based upon zone volume and not on HP
Ammo = AmmoForceMultiplyer=4.0 - The ammo 4.0 is straight out HP x 4

It is my understanding that it is a straight out effect that is always in play, I will however confirm this with Dan.

If you imagine the old system where a C2 might have but 400 HPs, then a 120 HP torpedo x 4 equals 480 which equals BOOM. Also, of a 180 HP torpedo explosion has a range of 7 metres, at the maximum distance the HP is quite low, most likely not enough to cause flooding, but multiply that then x 4, suddenly we have flooding in zones that we previously would not have.

For a Critical Chance to occur, the torpedo must impact the zone. No impact, no critical chance. That is, if the torpedo explodes via the magnetic pistol, Critical Chance is not considered.

NOTE the use of the word ZONE. While I often refer to the ‘cargo hold’ or ‘compartment’ they are in essence a ZONE that is places in these locations.

If a Critical Chance is achieved then the HP value of the explosion is multiplied by the Multiplier= value specified for that zone.

Dan reply to my question regarding the implementation of the Critical Chance.

Now it has been my observation from doing the NYGM Ship Damage Mod Ver 2, that the Multiplier= is only for the visual, that is big explosion to match the instant kill. I conclude this as I have seen a zone in the NYGM Ship Damage Mod Ver 2 that was paper thin as to have little more than a single pixel between either side, with a Multiplier=1 send the liberty ship to the bottom.

You are right about a cascading effect when having a critical chance. That is, 180HP x 4 x 5 = 3600 HP explosion.
