There is a nice Navigation map mod that shows convoy routes (like the map that comes with the game) when you zoom out.
SH3 Commander adds fun and allows you to change some things easily. It is the first one to get. Allows you to eliminate fatigue if you want & add medals & qualifications to your crew. These can make it easier if you want.
Then you can add emblem mods easily for more choices to decorate your boat.
The sensor pack mod & snorkel fix is good.
Reduced radius for depth charges is out (haven't installed it yet)
Grammophone songs are easy to add and fun.
You can edit the ammo in your deck gun too:
"Go to the Data/Cfg folder. Click on Basic.cfg. Way down near the bottom of the file, just below 'Coning', which is all the conning tower files, you'll come across the gun files: '10.5cm', '8.8cm' etc. Those two files have the ammo loads for the deck guns. You can change them to anything you want; thousands of shells if you like.
The historical loads should read:
10.5cm: AP=0, SS=0, HE=150
8.8cm: AP=0, SS=0, HE=220

Personally i plan on playing SH3 pretty basic until I get bored with it or feel something is wrong. I dont get to play alot so making it more difficult is not really what I want. Fixes rather than mods are my main interest at this point and my computer is old so I don't add anything too hard on it.
If you have a fast machine then some of the graphics and skin mods will add to the fun-but I can't say which are best, tho I'm sure others can help.
