I do not know how many years you have been away, but there are several good mods out there.

A good place to start from is Silent Hunter III [SH3] Guide Not Only For Beginners which I am going to update next week.

I had checked that out but the only new mod Ive seen is this Living SHIII mod. But I cant quite figure out what it dose.
