At that point their info was that an emergency had happened at your house and that can mean anything. Every emergency they get called to can involve a guy pulling a gun and shooting at them. So it's natural that they want to be prepared and have their guns ready. They have to do that for decades and it only takes one moment of dropping their guard to get a bullet.
Seriously I could imagine that weapon availability in the US and police brutality correlate.
