Yup. In 2012, Obama was an old tired face with an old tired message and still won re-election.
The problem for the GOP is that their most prominent prospects display prominent flaws. Rand Paul is out of the party mainstream on defense and security issues; Chris Christie is tarred by the bridge-gate scandal, Ted Cruz is a polarizing figure associated with an unpopular government shutdown. Other contenders like Jeb Bush, Paul Ryan, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum all look like retreads connected to past disappointments and defeats.
Susanna Martinez, the Republican governor in New Mexico, looks like a fresher prospect. She's articulate, a fiscal conservative and a Latina. A group Republicans desperately need to court. Hopefully, she can avoid being compared to Sarah Palin.
