If you read the scripts in located in the Mighty Fine Crew Mod v1.2.1 MOD you can see where it is dressing the crew. You can change the Caps in there.
I have my deck gunners put on helmets and life vests when tell them to man the deck gun. Then they take them off when they return to crew quarters.
