Ripper of a game, taken straight from tabletop game "Carriers at War". With three Campaigns that are sandbox spiced up with hit & run missions, escort duty and secret missions (sometimes supporting landing craft in invasions) yet also includes Historical and Custom Scenarios (skirmish).
The three Campaigns are the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Pacific it is up to you how to outfit your flotilla - destroyers, a wolfpack of subs or a mixed taskforce.
Graphics are superb for the depth and content of the title, and while you cannot control your subsystems or damage your enemy's, you do have to watch firing arcs, lead with torpedoes, dodge incoming shells and torpedoes and decide when to send your aircraft into battle if equipped with carriers. There is nothing like pulling off a daring hit with 3 Level 2 destroyers against 4 Level 4 German or Vichy French opponents, with your final opponent sometimes choosing to surrender (no reload of a savegame plays the same either).
I have spent several hours since launch today exploring the myriad of of tactics to win a campaign, from attacking patrols, defending convoys or choking off enemy ports (all ports have limited supplies until replenished). A world map, for your campaign, a Tactical Map and a Tactical view with camera follow or free this is the best naval title I've seen in ages and well worth the asking price.
