Yeah that is a a movie and the idea that only 300 Spartans alone where at Thermopylae is well a myth there where around 5,200 total Greeks or 7,400 depending on which Greek historian you read.The final day was a delaying action.
Even in the last day at least 700 Thespians stayed to fight along side the Spartans.
I agree that the Spartans where the best hoplites pound for pound in Ancient Greece but there is a bit too much legend surrounding them that is taken as truth.
I think the real Spartans would think that the movie 300 as some sort of insult they did not fight like that at all.
Soldiers and Marines in Korea did the same thing Spartans "did" nearly all the time sometimes only one or two men staying behind to allow their allies to retreat sometimes facing hundreds of Chinese now that takes balls because more than likely you are not going to survive but you comrades will.How many of those guys have you heard of?
