Not playing any mods. Playing on Vanilla, and loaded several games now trying to figure out what the heck is bugged. Seems like the first boat upgrade screws me over - the initial one's depth control worked perfectly at any depth and any speed. The upgraded boat seems to overshoot every single low depth reading (admittedly before leveling out) and after 60 or 70m depth just keeps going down if I am stationary or moving at slow ahead. I can bring myself back up by hitting periscope depth or surfacing the boat - but as mentioned, a diving mechanic bug in a sub simulation game is kind of.. yeah..
Lots of re-loading at port and sailing back out into 200m deep waters to try different realism settings too. Doesn't seem to have any effect(s). Navigator's skills don't seem to affect this in any way (other than diving deeper before imploding). I can "theoretically" keep my current depth by spamming periscope depth and the depth I want at every half a minute intervals, but that completely kills whatever immersion I have left after overlooking everything else, and the whole point of playing this game, since it goes against basic boyancy principles and physics (the boat may not dive to an accurate level, but constant pressure vs mass in the ballast tanks would maintain that inaccurate depth. That might vary pending on your speed and the angle of attack on your ailerons, but that would be tweaked in those situations)
On subject - deck awash doesn't seem to work on the same upgraded sub. Setting depth to 7m refuses to allow the boat to get below 6m - which doesn't really 'awash deck' unless there are swells, and setting depth to 8m takes the sub down to 10-11m - which puts the bridge underwater (you can also still walk around the surface deck of your boat like normal, even though you are fully submerged at pretty much the periscope depth. On that note, setting the depth to 6m would take the boat down to 10-11m in a similar fashion if you reverse at emergency speed.
So my question(s) are:
- Is there a known fix for this?
- Is this the only type of the U-Boat that is bugged, and do I suck it up and wait until I get an upgrade which works?
- Do I re-load to the starter sub, and just refuse whenever I get assigned a new boat, since that one had none of these issues.
- Do I simply give up and go back to SH4 with all the crashes or SH3 with dated graphics.
Surely I can't be the only one with this problem :"(
