I guess I was just trying to point our that had these ships survived their grievous wounds at Pearl Harbor, they likely would have found little to beat up on by the time they were repaired and put back into the game. With the exception of the rather one-sided Suriago Straits battle most of the old, slow pre-war battleships found themselves having to be content with shore bombardment and AA duty.

I'm not sure if it was luck or fate, but it seems the ships of the First Air Fleet lived under a cloud after Dec 7th, 1941. The last actual warship of the group, the heavy cruiser Tone, was sunk in Kure Harbor by carrier planes just weeks before the surrender. The last destroyers in the group took part in the Yamato's suicide sortie and didn't survive either.
