Thanks for all the answers! I'm coming back to SH3 after quitting for a while, and I'm glad to see that the SH3 community is still thriving.

I followed the instructions on the NYGM 2.0 as poor sailor suggested, and and it works! I was not even aware that a manual existed, and I'm now reading it thoroughly.
