I save once every game day. I save just before I attack. Because I don't have a sound card and my game sometimes crashes when a ship sinks I save right after torpedoing one.
It's kept me going more times than I care to remember.
Many years ago there was a popular (but pompous) bumber sticker which said "I brake for small animals". I got a good laugh when I saw one spoofing it with "I brake for no apparent reason".
That's why I save: my computer crashes for no apparent reason.
