W8 can be viewed two ways, the older w-7 or xp type desktop or the new 8-1 Tile view. When a program is installed, a tile is added to the tile view. You can just boot into the older desktop view and not use the tile and use traditional icons on your desktop which is my preference.
But evidently to update SH 5 to v.2 you have to launch the game from the tile view in order to update. Don't know why it would make a difference. Just trying to save someone from a little more frustration
