Maybe not related to your case, but when I installed the Nvidia graphics drivers for the GPU on my laptop, it also installs some audio chipset drivers by default. Which in my case doesn't match what's on my system (I have Realtek chips), but still made it malfunction. So I had to uncheck that that builtin audiodriver option when I installed the recent Nvidia GPU drivers, to prevent the mess-up. Something you might wanna look into.
[EDIT] Nevermind, all other sound worked ok... Carry on. Must be that volume button Raptor talks about.
