Essentially that is correct, but I don't usually refer to JSGME as an "only". JSGME works with any game in any configuration, and in fact was not originally designed for the Silent Hunter series at all. Its function is strictly to give you better control over the mods, allowing you to not only enable them but also disable them with ease.

But basically yes, Commander only works if you start the game through Commander. Everything else is separate.

By the way, Steve I noticed the Gulf Of Tonkin Yacht Club patch you have. I was a member myself. Two Westpac Cruises one six months and another 9 months. I was a Radioman on the USS Long Beach CGN-9 from January 1969 to December 1972.
Your a better man than I am. I was an apprentice Radioman (never actually got the patch) on USS Brinkley Bass (DD-887) from March to December 1970, and was on station from the time I joined the ship in March until we came home in June. That three months has so many stories that it felt more like three years.

Here's the weird part. Were you in Subic during that three months? I ask because I have some pictures I've never put on my computer of our ship being moved away from the pier to make room for one of the Guided Missile Cruisers, and I think it was the Long Beach. I already found out a few years ago that when we did maneuvers with an Australian task force Tarjak's dad was one of the Aussie sailors in the group. The world seems to keep getting smaller.
