Resolving bearing ambiguity is simple once you grasp the concept. The way the signal is processed, the TA can't tell which side the signal is coming from. So you have to resolve the bearing ambiguity.

So let's say you have a contact and you turn left to resolve. If the contact moves up the waterfall display it is on the portside. You can tell this because the contact is moving UP the waterfall display and therefore you must be turning towards it. If it were to move down, then you would be turning away from it and it would be on your starboard side.

Thank you very much, that was one of the most simple explanations of the ffg towed array sonar I've read.
The manual isn't very clear on this point.
