Yes, we were much more sensible in England and Scotland, especially with the old Pounds, shillings and pence that I grew up with in England*
4 farthings to the penny
12 pennies to the shilling
20 shillings to the pound
1 pound and 1 shilling to the Guinea (not used as coinage but still used for the price of horses).
Also,
tuppence (2 pence which is also a half a groat)
Thrupenny bit (3 pence)
Sixpence (6 pence)
Florin (2 shillings)
Ha'penny (1/2 penny)
Half Crown (2 shillings and 6 pence)
Crown (5 shillings) - we still have them, but they are 5 pounds now.
* yes, I mean originally England: Scottish was roughly the same but with the merk (13 shillings and 4 pence, a handy two-thirds of a pound) until one of the unions (Crown, I think)
Plus:-
bodle (two pence)
plack (four pence)
bawbee (3 bodles)
shilling (2 bawbees, which was an English penny)
1 Scots pound (20 English pence)
We've sorted all this out now, so that we have decimalisation....except for pints in pubs. Oh, and Miles per hour and distances. And heights and clothing sizes. Oh, and the weights of human beings (14lbs to the Stone). Ah, and nails and screws.
And curtains come to think of it.
