Yes, passive sonar is better than active sonar, but a galloping destroyer can not be useful sitting around all day waiting for a known sound to show up.

From what little I understand a modern submarine can hear a pinging active sonar from a long way away. All they have to do is get out of the way, but how many have run into a helicopter doing an active search and get caught trying to make a run for it?

Plus don't carrier groups include at least one fast attack running interference?
