I have never witnessed that kind of unloading of straw into cattle pens, projectile style!
The usual method is to take a round bale of straw in there, undo all the bale twine and push it around until it unravels and then kick it about until you have a fairly even covering.
Trust the Germans to find a technological short-cut.
