Notes: A passive homing torpedo developed from the Mark 18 which in turn was developed from captured German G7e torpedoes. The USN considered motor and gear noises to be the most troublesome problem with the homing torpedoes, unlike the Germans, who regarded propellor noises as the worst problem. The Mark 18 was not a quiet design, so the Mark 28 used only one propellor and eliminated the tail gearing. There were four hydrophones on the curved part of the nose. In production from 1944-52 and remained in service until 1960.
