Really?
Well, I suppose if you don't play SH3 you might not know. SH3 Commander is an external tool/program that performs several functions.
1. It lets you control parameters such as crew fatigue, water clarity, wave height, Time Compression and deck gun reload times with the press of a digital button, rather than edit those things manually.
2. Allows randomized effects such as malfunctions and sabotage, target ship tonnage and u-boat crush depths.
3. Allows you to set days in base, or randomize them.
4. Start patrols at sea if you don't want to be bothered sailing through the harbor.
5. Simulate a realistic career length by implementing captain retirement or promotion to a command position.
6. Simulate realistic crew transfers by having men transfer in and out automatically, and giving reasons for the transfer.
7. Have every ship you sink be assigned an historic name, cargo loadout and crew number. This is what led to my long-running Ship Names mod.
8. Supplies a crew name database allowing for 1.7 billion possible names.
9. Has a randomizer function that allows you to add just about anything you want. This led to my Loading Screens mod, which randomizes 100 different loading screens (created by others, not me) and 25 different marches for the dockside band to play, so it is different every time you load the game.
10. Has a date-based randomizer function that allows for u-boat skins updating automatically, grammaphone tracks to appear according the year the songs were released, historical speeches to play on the appropriate dates, and just about anything else you want to change by date.
11. Allows you to edit your patrol log after the patrol is finished, so you can put in realistic attack data and personal notes. They will then appear in your regular SH3 patrol log.
I always say that Commander does for your campaign what a good supermod does for the gameplay, and I consider it to be the single most important tool for playing SH3.
