Found a fix to make the bar stay up.... edit this in your menu_1024_768.ini file (the one you edited to add the mod)

see the ; before "Vertslide" at the bottom? add that.

This only keeps the bottom bar with TC + time up. I haven't bothered looking for the crew icons but i may.
